How to Personalize Events with AI

By Michelle Bruno
March 21, 2024

Artificial Intelligence is arguably one of the most powerful technologies ever invented. As such, it can be overwhelming, especially at this early stage of development. To get started using AI, event marketers should look at existing processes and then determine if or how AI can improve them. Personalization is a prime use case for which AI has made significant inroads. To get a handle on how to personalize events with AI, consider these resources.

Event technology providers are among the first event stakeholders to recognize the value and impact of AI on personalization. In her article on the 2024 trends driving events transformation, Kristen Koenig, RVP of Video Sales & Partnerships at RingCentral, lists AI-enhanced session recommendations, smart networking, and tailored post-event attendee messages as personalization features that will take “event engagement to new heights and immerse attendees in an unparalleled user experience.”

AI-enhanced features in event technology platforms aren’t the only avenues for event marketers to sample AI’s personalization prowess. Prompting the current AI platforms that exist outside the events industry, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Bing AI, event organizers can build attendee personas they can leverage to design targeted events.

Event marketing and design agencies have always plumbed the future, and the advent of AI has only made them more curious and capable. Event marketers can lean into personalization and reduce the risk by partnering with agencies that have already developed AI enhancements for events and created content that details their expertise.

It’s easier to navigate new technology terrain with a fundamental understanding of the problems and opportunities and how to address them. When it comes to personalization in events with AI, two options come to mind:

  • Meeting Professionals International offers an AI certificate program. One module is devoted to personalization and engagement with AI.

  • Nick Borrelli, who also teaches an AI course for the Event Leadership Institute, has emerged as one of the leading voices in events on AI, including personalization. Follow Nick Borrelli on LinkedIn.

While several industry events address technology, Event Tech Live remains the only industry event exclusively dedicated to technology, offering education and the opportunity to mingle with AI enthusiasts. In the upcoming edition, scheduled May 1-2 in Las Vegas, the conference program features three sessions on AI:

  • A No-BS Guide to Generative AI and How It Can Help Event Planners Excel in 2024 and Beyond

  • How AI is Reshaping the Future of Events

  • Unlock the Future of Event Planning with ChatGPT: Elevating Efficiency, Innovation, and Collaboration!

Personalization in events with AI is a crucial skill set. A tailored experience can increase attendee satisfaction, engagement and conversion rates, competitive advantage, and valuable data insights. While AI-enhanced event technologies are a gateway to more effective and accelerated personalization—a much-in-demand attribute of business conferences and exhibitions—event marketers should learn, experiment, and collaborate on their own to stay ahead of this fast-moving technology train.
