7 Ways a Female-Driven Industry can Help Struggling Young Men

Professor, author, speaker and entrepreneur Scott Galloway has spoken frequently about the struggle of young men in American society. One need only read the news to understand the gravity of the situation.
In his recent blog post, “Boys to Men,” Galloway describes a dire situation and what society can do to help. As an industry (events) in which women dominate, there are plenty of steps we can take to design programs that help young men. Here are some of them.
- Focus on professional development as an integral part of your program, and don't only focus on industry education; try to create a program for a well-rounded student/attendee.
- Bring back mentor/mentee buddy systems big time. Create the space and the opportunity for male mentors to build long-term relationships with younger male mentees and give them space for accountability with each other. Carve out time in the event schedule for this to happen.
- Create sponsorships in which companies pay the registration and all event expenses for young men who want to upskill and be part of your event.
- Have veteran attendees who know how to network become sherpas, helping young attendees meet new people, have conversations, and not feel alone.
- Create on-demand channels from archived event content for those who cannot pay subscriptions or member dues.
- Bring in life coaches and therapists who can help attendees navigate life, make good life decisions, understand that it's okay to be living at home if by choice, and make a life plan to reach their desired goals. Remember the Game of Life?
- Ask attendees who abandon registration what would change their mind. Is it the fee? What would they want at the event that’s not there? Create space for them to tell you what’s going on with no shame.
